In 2011 Solar Controls completed the installation of our Solar PV system for the roof of our Full Sutton Site which will generate enough energy to power about three family homes.
It was a great project for the Harsh & Solar Controls teams to be involved with; the PV system integrates seamlessly into the fabric of the building, and delivers both a reduction in carbon and has a great non visual impact.

The PV system size is 9.87kWp, making a CO2 saving of 4,785 kg. It is made up of 42 x 235W Centro Solar NU series panels. The design team at Solar Controls decided on Centro Solar branded panels because they are a high quality, trustworthy brand that have proven to be reliable and deliver a great return on investment.

The occupants at the Full Sutton Site are now also able to watch exactly how much energy their office and workshops are generating due to a new energy display.

The SMA energy display provides a sophisticated breakdown of electricity usage by the building and its occupants. The software then allows for this usage to be directly compared with the amount of power generated by the building’s newly-fitted solar panels.

The monitoring system will display real-time energy production on a large screen.

The investment in the energy display and solar panels will significantly improve the green credentials of Harsh’s Full Sutton Site by reducing CO2 emissions, attracting more companies engaged in the environmental sustainability sectors, and reducing the energy costs incurred.

Carl Hinds – Managing Director of Harsh Limited said “ The response and work ethic of Solar Controls was impeccable from initial consultation to installation and beyond. Our only challenge now is to ensure staff are energy contious and the Managers stop turning the lights off while people are still working. It’s certainly an eye opener to how wasteful businesses can be if left to their own devices.”
